Pablo Lago Dantas makes his directional debut with “A mass for wandering souls”

After a long career as a cinematographer, he debuted as a director.

Born in Pontevedra, he moved to Barcelona 10 years ago and since then his career has not stopped growing. He has recently been nominated in the best cinematography festival in the world, energaCamerimage, in addition to work in award-winning projects nominated at international festivals such as Sitges, FICUNAM, Rotterdam, Málaga, Thessaloniki, SIFF, NVIRR, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, or Berlin Fashion Film Festival. He is also about to make his directorial debut with a documentary feature film soon to be released.

In addition to his film activity, he is an accomplished cinematographer on music videos where he has worked with several big names in the music industry including Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Paris Hilton, Mc Davo, Santa Fe Klan, Juicy M, Mattn, and Crooked Colours. He regularly works with labels such as Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, Spinnin’ Records or Smash the House. 

At the same time, he also develops projects in the field of advertising, working with major production companies such as Conde Nast, OXÍGENO Producciones, Morph Media, Albiñana Films, and Lavinianext. Some of the brands featuring his work include Vogue, Rolex, Nestlé, Adidas, Marcilla, Philip Morris, and Gallina Blanca, among others. 

In 2019, Pablo Lago was nominated best cinematographer at the Polish film festival EnergaCamerimage for the documentary “The Six Degrees of Freedom” directed by Sergio H. Martín. Celebrities such as Tarantino, Robert Richardson, Storaro, Richard Gere, Edward Norton, Christopher Doyle, Rodrigo Prieto, and Lawrence Sher, the winner of the Golden Frog with “The Joker”, also participated that same festival year. 

He is currently working on “A mass for wandering souls”, his first documentary feature film as director, cinematographer, and screenwriter. The film has been financed by the Spanish government and co-produced by “DianaToucedo Films” and Galician TV. The project received the “Antaviana” award for projects in development (“L’Altenativa Film Festival”, Barcelona) and was presented at the Gijón International Film Festival work in progress 2020. It also received the Cinemart Rotterdam award and Málaga WIP award (REC Film Festival 2021), as well as the best Spanish project award and the FIDBA award in Málaga WIP 2021. The film has been selected for “Thessaloniki’s agora work in progress 2021”. The editing was developed in the prestigious dok.incubator Czech program. The film is about to be released and Deckert Distribution will handle its international distribution.
