Jani-King Australia Launches Reconciliation Action Plan to Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities

Jani-King Australia, the country’s leading commercial cleaning franchise, proudly announces the launch of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This strategic initiative marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to enhancing its engagement, understanding, and impact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across Australia.

In the spirit of reconciliation, Jani-King acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. The company pays respect to Elders past and present and extends this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Founded in 1993 by Ben Stoltz, Jani-King Australia has grown to encompass a vast network of over 700 franchisees. Jani-King employs 13 team members who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The company’s RAP is a formal pledge to further integrate cultural awareness and support into its business model, ensuring sustainable relationships and meaningful opportunities for Indigenous communities.

“Our RAP development is a testament to our dedication to increasing our overall engagement and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” said Suzi Dileo, Manager – Optimisation & Training, and champion of the Reflect RAP. “We aim to offer further business opportunities, supplier partnerships, and career development pathways, fostering a supportive environment for all.”

Jani-King Australia’s RAP outlines several core initiatives designed to promote reconciliation and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The first step involves educating senior management and staff about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly those near Jani-King’s offices in capital cities. This program aims to deepen understanding of the rich heritage of First Nations peoples and how the business can contribute positively to reconciliation.

Jani-King Australia is also committed to increasing career development opportunities for Indigenous staff members and communicating effectively about the business opportunities available within its franchise framework. Moreover, identifying and developing supplier partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses is a priority, ensuring that the economic benefits of Jani-King’s operations are shared more broadly. Expanding recruitment partnerships with a focus on Indigenous engagement will also help to diversify Jani-King’s workforce and promote inclusivity.

The artwork accompanying the RAP features elements such as camps, bush turkey tracks, sand dunes, medicinal shrubs, native shrubs, journey lines, river crossings, and people. These symbols represent the coastal landscape of Gubbi Gubbi Country and Jani-King’s commitment to closing the gap in Indigenous communities through coordinated and strategic efforts. The flowing river crossing signifies the fluidity of development and growth, while the ‘U’ shapes represent the people of Jani-King dedicated to working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

With the launch of its Reflect RAP, Jani-King Australia is poised to make a significant impact on reconciliation efforts across the nation. By fostering cultural awareness, expanding career opportunities, and developing strategic partnerships, Jani-King is committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable future for all Australians.
