Indian Visa Overstay Rules

Bangladesh, 3rd Jan 2025 – Overstaying in India can result in penalties based on the duration. There is no fine for stays up to 15 days. If you overstay for 16–30 days, the fine is ₹10,000. For 31–90 days, the penalty is ₹20,000, and overstaying beyond 90 days attracts a fine of ₹50,000. Overstaying may also affect your future travel eligibility. Visa holders should depart on time to avoid fines and long-term consequences. Travelers can check their visa status online using their passport number and application file number through the Indian visa application system.

FINE FOR OVERSTAY IN INDIA

The fine for overstaying is nil for the first 15 days, ₹10,000 for 16–30 days, ₹20,000 for 31–90 days, and ₹50,000 for over 90 days. Overstaying can have lasting effects on future travel plans. Travelers are advised to leave India on or before the visa expiry date to prevent fines and complications.

Eligible citizens from over 169 countries can apply online. The stay is limited to 90 days, except for travelers from Canada, Japan, the UK, and the US, who can stay up to 180 days. Short visits can use the double-entry 30-day visa.
