Author A Ben Bacon Shares the Powerful Story of The Coming in Spotlight Interview

War veteran and ex-typhoon hunter uncovers real-life resilience behind his supernatural thriller trilogy.
Exclusive Interview with Logan Crawford
Vancouver, BC, Canada, 21st Aug 2025 – Author, veteran, and ex-typhoon chaser A. Ben Bacon recently spoke with The Spotlight Interview with Logan Crawford about his heart-racing supernatural thriller, ‘The Coming.’ The exclusive interview, available now on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV, takes the audience into Ben’s remarkable life story and the adrenaline-fueled real-world experiences that informed his gripping novel.
A Life of Service, Survival, and Bravery
Bacon’s own career is filled with incredible chapters: serving in the Vietnam War, flying into 39 fully formed typhoons as a military meteorologist, and receiving three Air Medals for bravery. His missions were high-risk, dropping him in the center of storms with winds over 200 mph, flying through conditions a few people have ever survived. However, it was a life-altering fall that caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that ultimately pushed him to writing.
From Trauma to Creative Awakening
“I was walking around like a zombie on medication after the TBI,” Ben explained during the interview. “I stopped taking all the drugs, and rather than give up, I began to create. ‘The Coming’ was a result of that struggle to regain my mind.”
A Supernatural Thriller Based on Real Experience
Located in the snowy terrain of southwest Colorado, ‘The Coming’ begins with a do-or-die rescue in the midst of a blizzard. Protagonist Joe, a reserved carpenter with a war background rescues a woman who is stranded in the storm. Hardly before, another rescue introduces Mareilene and her twin into his life pregnant, frightened, and hunted by an evil entity she terms “the devil.” Thereafter, Ben’s story blends faith, sacrifice, and supernatural horror, into a revelation of the fate of unborn twins one male, one female, who have destinies as saviors.
Authenticity Through Real-Life Struggles
The book’s fast-paced action and spiritual overtones reflect Ben’s own experiences with close calls for life. His time spent in the military, survival under harsh weather conditions, and rehabilitation from extreme injury all bring a level of realism to the novel that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
Expanding the Trilogy and Beyond
In the interview, Ben shared that ‘The Coming’ is merely the first part of a trilogy. The second one, ‘The Coming: Hunted,’ is already done, and work on the third, ‘The Coming: In Plain Sight,’ is currently ongoing. The series has also piqued interest in possible TV or movie adaptations.
Cinematic Storytelling and Casting Vision
Logan Crawford commended the novel’s filmic quality, citing its combination of adrenaline, peril, and emotional complexity. On casting, Ben proposed discovering solid but subtle actors who could capture the characters’ resilience, potentially even finding new ones to introduce new energy to the screen.
Writing as a Means of Survival
For Ben, writing is not just telling stories, it’s a matter of survival. “Chasing typhoons or going into combat, writing propels you,” he explained. “After you’re done, on to the next thing.”
