An Evening of Premium Oils in Pakostane

Gastronomic Evening of Olive Oil in Pakostane

On August 19th, the manifestation “Pakostane Liquid Gold” was held for the first time in Pakostane, a gastronomic evening dedicated to olive oil, organized by the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Pakostane.

Vrana Peasant Code – Olive Trees in History

Olive trees and vines have shaped the life and identity of Pakostane for centuries. Even in the Vrana Peasant Code from 1454, written in Zadar, there is a provision that obligated peasants to plant olive trees: “…every peasant is obliged to plant one hundred olive saplings within four years, otherwise they will not have privileges…”

Heritage of Olive Growing Passed Through Generations

This record testifies to the importance of olive growing in the life of the local population, as well as to the continuity that lasts to this day. There is hardly a house in the Pakostane region that doesn’t have at least a few olive trees – a heritage that is passed down through generations and has shaped the spirit of the place.

Award-Winning Olive Oils from Pakostane

Pakostane olive growers have been multiply awarded for producing “liquid gold” at various domestic and international competitions. The year 2025 particularly stood out, when at prestigious competitions such as the New York International Olive Oil Competition, Berlin, and London, everything was marked by the oils of the Pakostane region.

Global Recognition of Pakostane Producers

Namely, seven magnificent producers returned to Pakostane with six gold and one silver medal, confirming that Pakostane stands alongside the best olive-growing regions in the world.

Manifestation “Pakostane Liquid Gold” – Olive Oil and Gastronomy

The manifestation “Pakostane Liquid Gold” was dedicated to olive oil and local gastronomy. Producers and visitors gathered on the waterfront to enjoy the tasting of extra virgin olive oils.

Culinary Experience with Local Ingredients

An experienced chef created a special gastronomic experience by preparing carefully designed bites from local ingredients that revealed the full character and aromatic personality of the oils from the Pakostane region. Visitors had the opportunity to taste championship oils and also combine the chef’s dishes with the character of each oil. They could enjoy risotto with cuttlefish and beans, cuttlefish stew, shrimp with pasta shells, and salsa with tomatoes that perfectly complement Pakostane oils. Pakostane once again confirmed that olive oil is not just an addition to dishes, but the core of Pakostane cuisine and identity.

Champion Olive Oils of Pakostane

At the most famous world competition in the USA, Pakostane was represented by a true oil fairy tale:

  • Vinko Lalin – Dalma Premium (OPG Lalin)
  • Branka and Slavo Stojanov – Oblica didinih vrtova (OPG Didini vrtovi)
  • Mario Baresic Cico – Skipper (Craft “Skipper Drage”)
  • Tomislav Cudina – Olea Viola (OPG Celini)
  • Ante Lokin – Oblica (OPG Cace moga)
  • Ante Vulin – Antino ulje (OPG Ante Vulin)
  • Sebastijan Adzic – Leut (Leut grupa d.o.o.)
Recognition for the Community and Olive Culture

Their oils, created through the combination of land, sun, and love for the olive tree, enchanted international experts. The won medals are not only recognition for individuals, but for the entire community, confirming that the Pakostane region is a true empire of olive oil.

Pakostane as a Global Olive Oil Destination

With its century-old tradition, award-winning oils, and the manifestation “Pakostane Liquid Gold,” Pakostane can rightfully be called a destination of golden olive oils today. What was once a peasant vow – to plant and preserve olives – has today been transformed into a brand that carries the name of the place around the world.

Preserving Tradition Through Olive Oil

The manifestation was not just a gastronomic experience, but also a message about the importance of preserving the long tradition and heritage of this region. Every drop of oil, every bite, and every word of the olive growers testified to the connection between man and land, and Pakostane once again confirmed itself as a guardian of heritage.
