Revolutionizing Solids Control Efficiency

In modern drilling, managing drilling fluids (“mud”) is essential for operational success. Inefficient equipment can cause costly non-productive time (NPT), unsafe conditions, and inconsistent fluid properties. Therefore, PSI designed the new MAX2000 lineup to reduce maintenance intervals and improve chemical integration. 

Additionally, the updated portfolio focuses on three main goals: maximizing fluid consistency, ensuring operator safety, and cutting chemical costs.

MAX2000 Mud Agitator Upgrade

A standout is the MAX2000 Mud Agitator, engineered to remove one of the riskiest tasks on a rig: confined space entry. Traditional designs require crews to enter mud tanks for lower bearing maintenance, creating significant safety risks.

PSI re-engineered the process to improve safety and longevity:

  • Top-Side Serviceability: Lower bearings can now be maintained from the top of the tank. Consequently, tank entry is no longer needed, greatly improving safety compliance.
  • Helical Bevel Efficiency: High-efficiency helical bevel gearing delivers up to 98% torque transfer. This keeps solids suspended, even in high-viscosity fluids, and prevents tank-bottom buildup.
  • Redundant Sealing: Four layers of protection isolate the lower bearing from abrasive drilling fluids. As a result, lifespan increases and replacement costs decrease.
High Shear Hoppers Reduce Costs

Chemical additives represent a major drilling budget expense. Inefficient mixing creates waste and “fish eyes”—unhydrated polymer clumps that damage equipment. PSI’s High Shear Hoppers feature a 6” Mixing Eductor and durable Urethane Nozzle, generating intense turbulence within the fluid stream.

Consequently, additives hydrate rapidly and uniformly. Field applications have demonstrated that this material handling equipment can reduce Bentonite and polymer usage can drop by up to 50%, saving operators substantial costs while maintaining optimal fluid properties.

Safety-First Conveyance Systems

Transporting drill cuttings presents mechanical hazards. PSI standardized safety features on their Screw Conveyors that other manufacturers treat as optional upgrades.

These modular systems are custom-built for specific rig footprints but follow a universal “Safety First” standard:

  • Immediate Shutdown: Side-mounted emergency pull cables and remote stop switches allow any crew member to halt operations instantly.
  • Audio-Visual Warnings: Strobe lights and high-decibel alarms clearly indicate equipment status, preventing startup accidents.
  • Operator Protection: Heavy-duty troughs and secure top grates protect personnel while allowing efficient semi-solid waste transport.
