WILMINGTON, DE, 3rd Mar 2026 – Global Work AI, a U.S.-based job search platform, surveyed more than 1,000 job seekers to examine how candidates approach resume writing as artificial intelligence becomes more prevalent. The survey found that 71% of respondents consider AI assistance in resume optimization helpful.

The findings contrast with the company’s previous survey conducted in August and September 2025, when 71% of respondents said they preferred a hands-on approach to their job search without using AI tools. As of February 2026, 29% described AI assistance as low-impact or ineffective.

As more recruiters turn to applicant tracking systems to assist with initial candidate screening, the importance of tailoring resumes for specific job openings has increased. Eighty percent of respondents said their resumes need improvement and expressed openness to integrating AI tools to strengthen them.

Seventy-three percent of respondents said they would trust AI to make text adjustments, including keyword matching, while 83% said they are comfortable with structural changes such as resume layout or section order.

“These findings point to a rapid shift in candidate attitudes, from initial resistance to growing acceptance of AI in recruitment,” said Alex Chepovoi, CEO and co-founder of Global Work AI. “As the ‘AI-fication’ of hiring deepens, using AI is becoming essential for job seekers not only to remain competitive but to stay visible to human recruiters.”

The survey also examined resume-to-job match rates. The analysis found that 60% of resumes do not fully align with the jobs they target. Only half of respondents said they leverage transferable skills and experience across different roles or industries by maintaining two or more versions of their resumes. Meanwhile, 46% said they continue to use a single, universal resume for all applications.

In addition to asking about maintaining multiple resumes, Global Work AI surveyed job seekers about tailoring resumes to specific openings. Eighty-nine percent said they optimize their resumes for different roles. However, the frequency of tailoring remains relatively low: Only one-third of respondents said they adjust their resumes for every second job application or more frequently. Time constraints were cited as the primary barrier.
