Azerbaijan Digital TV Transformation
Azerbaijan, 14th Jan 2025 – The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan began transforming broadcasting services to energy-efficient and high-quality digital technologies in 2004. They launched the first DVB-T standard digital TV broadcasting in Baku.
By 2016, the ministry covered the entire country with DVB-T digital TV broadcasting and ended analog TV program transmission. This move improved broadcast quality and expanded access for viewers nationwide.
Radio & TV Energy Transformation
Azerbaijan replaced AM radio transmitters, which had high output power (150–500 kWt), low efficiency, and poor transmission quality, with FM and digital DAB+ standard transmitters. The country terminated AM radio broadcasting in 2019.
This transformation dramatically reduced yearly energy consumption for radio broadcasting from 53.3 MWt/h to 3.7 MWt/h—a 14-fold decrease. It also cut related carbon emissions from 18.7 kton to 1.3 kton. Similarly, the TV broadcasting transformation saved another 2.2 kton of carbon emissions.
Nationwide Digital Broadcasting Upgrade
Transform allowed reduction of energy consumption and access of population to many of high-quality radio and TV programs.
In 2024 number of and DVB-T2 multiplexers reached 20. It is planned at next upcoming years to replace all remaining DVB-T transmitters with DVB-T2 and cover full country with DAB+ radio broadcasting with terminating of FM broadcasting.
