Epicflow Begins Enterprise Testing of AI-Powered Portfolio Optimizer in Mission-Critical Environments

Economic Updates Market News

Amsterdam, Netherlands, February 24, 2026 — Epicflow has started testing its AI-powered Project Portfolio Optimizer (EPO) in complex enterprise environments, which marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to help organizations operating in mission-critical environments deliver large-scale programs faster and with greater impact.

The start of the testing comes at the time when organizations across Europe and beyond are under increasing pressure to accelerate delivery of complex and high-impact programs. Even when budgets grow, program leaders continue to struggle with missed deadlines and overextended teams. According to Epicflow experts, the root cause of this issue is not funding, but the limited availability of skilled resources.

The real bottleneck faced by enterprises is no longer budget, but scarce expertise,” said Dr. Ir. Albert Ponsteen, co-founder of Epicflow. “Without aligning strategic priorities with actual capacity, organizations inevitably overload their teams and delay the most valuable initiatives.”

This challenge shaped the functionality of the Epicflow AI Portfolio Optimizer (EPO), an AI-driven capability within Epicflow platform. EPO prioritizes and sequences projects based on value per constrained resource hour. Rather than encouraging organizations to take on more work, the system helps leaders focus on initiatives that deliver the greatest measurable impact with the resources already available.

In high-stakes environments, delays aren’t just inconvenient; they can have serious operational and strategic consequences,” Ponsteen adds. “EPO helps enterprises reduce systemic overload, improve predictability, and accelerate delivery without increasing headcount.”

Ben Rawson, a portfolio management professional and strategic partner at Epicflow, emphasized the broader transformation EPO brings to the decision-making process. “Many organizations still rely on static plans and subjective prioritization,” he said. “EPO replaces that with dynamic, data-driven optimization. Leaders gain full visibility into trade-offs and can clearly identify which projects drive the highest value under real-world constraints.

The Epicflow Portfolio Optimizer is currently being tested in collaboration with aerospace and defense organizations to validate its impact in highly complex and high-stakes program environments. The preliminary results have shown significant performance improvements, reduced lead times, and faster delivery of projects with the highest business value, all without increasing headcount.

There should be a fundamental shift in the approach to managing programs and portfolios: from “doing it all” to focusing on what is really important.” Dr. Ponsteed concludes. “EPO was developed to enable this shift and improve delivery performance.”
