Esterad Bank Managed Specialised Healthcare Fund completes strategic investment in the Eye Infirmary

Esterad Bank, a Bahrain-based wholesale Islamic bank regulated by the Central Bank of Bahrain, announced that a specialized healthcare focused investment fund under its management has completed a strategic investment in The Eye Infirmary W.L.L, one of Bahrain’s leading specialized ophthalmology centers.
Empowering Excellence in Eye Care
The investment aims to support and accelerate the growth of The Eye Infirmary. It builds on the center’s strong clinical foundation, experienced medical leadership, and proven operating model. Through this partnership, the renowned medical team will gain access to enhanced resources, cutting-edge technologies, and the latest advancements in ophthalmic care. They will continue to lead the institution, ensuring continuity in clinical governance, patient care, and medical excellence as the centre expands its footprint and services.
Backed by Esterad Investment Co B.S.C, Kanoo Ventures (part of Yusuf bin Ahmed Kanoo Group), and other strategic investors, the specialized healthcare-focused fund has formed a long-term partnership with The Eye Infirmary. This collaboration further aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider of specialized eye care across the region.

Founded in 2016 by Dr Shaikh Saad bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Khalifa, The Eye Infirmary has earned a strong reputation as a centre of excellence in ophthalmology. It benefits from a highly specialized medical team, advanced clinical infrastructure, and consistently strong patient outcomes. The centre has treated thousands of patients across Bahrain and the wider region. Moreover, it is recognised for its patient-centric approach and adoption of leading-edge ophthalmic technologies.
Expanding Visionary Eye Care
The Eye Infirmary currently operates in its Seef District clinic, Janabiya Square clinic, and provides specialized services at Awali Hospital. As a result, it has become one of Bahrain’s most comprehensive private ophthalmology platforms.
The healthcare-focused fund will deploy growth capital to support the next phase of expansion. For instance, plans include establishing Bahrain’s first private paediatric ophthalmology centre, enhancing specialized subspecialty services, and selective regional expansion into markets with rising demand for high-quality eye care.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Shaikh Saad bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Khalifa, Founder of The Eye Infirmary, said: “Since our establishment, we have focused on clinical excellence, innovation, and high-quality patient care. This partnership therefore provides long-term capital and a strong institutional partner. It allows us to expand services, invest in advanced technologies, and pursue new opportunities. We will continue upholding the medical standards and patient-centric approach that define The Eye Infirmary. Consequently, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the long-term potential this partnership creates for patients and the wider healthcare sector.”
Investing in Premier Eye Care
Mr Ahmed Abdulrahman, Acting CEO of Esterad Bank, commented: “The Eye Infirmary is a highly attractive healthcare platform. It has strong fundamentals, a proven operating model, and significant growth potential. Therefore, this investment reflects our focus on scalable, founder-led businesses that generate sustainable long-term returns. We look forward to working closely with the leadership and medical team to support expansion, broaden services, and replicate success in regional markets where high-quality ophthalmic care is in demand.”
Mr Nabeel Kanoo, Chairman of Kanoo Ventures, added: “Healthcare is strategically important for long-term investment. Demographic growth, innovation, and rising demand drive this sector. The Eye Infirmary is a best-in-class, founder-led institution with strong clinical governance, proven performance, and a clear growth trajectory. Hence, we are pleased to partner with Esterad Bank and support a leading Bahraini healthcare platform while generating sustainable value for investors.”
Backing Excellence in Eye Care
