Global Natural History Day 2025 Global Finals Kicks Off at Shanghai University

On the afternoon of 18th July, the Global Natural History Day® 2025 Global Finals jointly sponsored by the National Museum of Natural History, the Global Health and Education Foundation, and Shanghai University formally began at the Baoshan Campus Gymnasium, Shanghai University. The activity is designed to enhance cultural exchange among young people and promote the growth of natural sciences.

Distinguished Leaders Attend the Opening Ceremony

Present at the opening ceremony were Xue Li, Chairman of the China Association of Natural Science Museums (CANSM); Wan Shilin, Party Secretary of the National Museum of Natural History; Stephen P. Beinke, President of Behring Global Educational Foundation; Shen Anqi, Vice President of Behring Global Educational Foundation; Liu Changsheng, President of Shanghai University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Duan Yong, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai University.

Young People from Everywhere in the Regions Compete in Science Challenges

640 teams from 14 regions throughout China and three specially invited regions will be brought together for a series of activities over a period of five days, competing in five domains: science exhibitions, science performances, science topic presentation, science-themed artwork, and storytelling, in a massive battle of natural science investigation.

A Legacy of Global Natural Science Education

At the ceremony, Stephen P. Beinke spoke about the evolution of Global Natural History Day since it was instituted in 2012. Representing the Global Health and Education Foundation, he thanked partners for their support to the sustainable development of natural science museums and invited participants to immerse themselves in the special value of the event.

Museums Inspire Curiosity and Conservation

Xue Li passed on congratulations at the opening of the 2025 Finals, observing that the program is in sync with museum-based education principles by bringing resources out into larger social realms and instilling young minds with an interest in science.

Appreciating Youth Involvement in Nature Conservation

Wan Shilin highlighted that the greatest value of Global Natural History Day is to foster scientific interest among young people and breed a generation that naturally appreciates nature conservation.

Shanghai University Fosters Innovation and Science

Liu Changsheng emphasized Shanghai University’s dedication to youth innovation in science, stressing its function of promoting scientific exploration, research, and public participation. Being open, inclusive, and innovative, the university offers a global platform for young participants to share ideas and exhibit talents.

Global Natural History Day® (GNHD®) is a natural science extracurricular learning exercise among young people started by Kenneth. E. Behring, the founder of Behring Global Educational Foundation since 2012. It is a not-for-profit organization aimed at stimulating students’ interest in the natural sciences and improving their research, analysis, and communication skills. Since its inception 14 years ago, the program has involved more than 100,000 teams, touching hundreds of thousands of families and millions of students and teachers.
