Roots in Rock and Van Halen Influence
The musical journey for Jeff began at the age of 10. Hehe was initiated into guitar lessons, but everything changed once he heard about Van Halen 1.
“Once I heard Van Halen, that was it for classical guitar training,” Jeff recalls. “By 15, I had the entire Van Halen 1 & 2 albums memorized, including ‘Eruption’ — which I still use to warm up.”
During his college days, he played during the rise of the local legends The Nixons. “I used to hang with Zach, their lead singer, and even introduced him to the guitar late one night. He took to it instantly, so I claim I taught him guitar!” Jeff jokes.
The Formation of JayMack Carpenter
Over the years, Jeff trained his voice and refined his song writing capabilities. He considers his dedication and training paid him in this journey. He met kindred spirits Will Carmack and Aaron Carpenter, and together they formed band and he assumed the name of JayMack Carpenter.
“Once I bring a song idea, they help bring out the best in it. For us, it’s about the music, not who gets credit.” He clarifies.
Their first album, Gypsy Soul, quickly gained attention, with tracks like “Highway 9” and “Change of Heart” standing out. He says his kids challenged him on writing something harder and louder and the result was “Man and His Machine” which is the latest offering from the band.
With producer Todd Chatham on board, the band has honed their sound even further. “Todd helped us improve everything — the writing, production, and song layout. We’ve embraced signature guitar solos at the end of tracks like ‘Colored Doorways’ and ‘Planet Radio,’ and my vocal range has added new dimensions to our music.”
