Netherlands, 9th May 2024, King NewsWire – The University of Amsterdam hosted “Oxygen: Startups for Sustainability,” an event aimed at igniting passion and action for a sustainable future.
Organized by a dedicated team of students, Dave Siebel, Elena Cecconi, and Giulio Pavesi, the inaugural edition took place on Earth Day, April 22nd, at UvA’s Roeterseiland Campus in Amsterdam.
At its core, “Oxygen: Startups for Sustainability” showcased dynamic speakers, each representing innovative startups dedicated to reshaping industries and advocating for sustainability. These entrepreneurs shared their journeys and insights into launching companies with a focus on sustainability, inspiring the audience of students to consider their role as change agents in creating a more sustainable world.
Giulio Pavesi, one of the event organizers, expressed the significance of “Startups for Sustainability” within the broader Oxygen project: “It’s a new way to celebrate Earth Days, showcasing concrete examples of positive efforts and introducing people to new tools, services, and technologies for sustainable living, with an optimistic look at our future. We are thrilled with the success of this first edition and eagerly anticipate planning future events, hoping that ‘Startups for Sustainability’ will serve as a catalyst for change, encouraging individuals to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives or starting their own sustainability-focused projects.”
Among the distinguished speakers was Merijn Everaarts, founder of Dopper, who shared the inspiring story behind his known Dutch company and encouraged students to embark on their sustainable ventures. Melissa Wijngaarden from Project CeCe, Sofie Wijlens from Tex-Tracer, Brad Vanstone from Willcroft, Steef Fleur from Billie Wonder, and Katarina Dabo from Reusify also presented their innovative approaches to sustainability.
The event attracted over 70 attendees and was made possible through the patronage of UvA’s Faculty of Humanities and the help of SEFA, Mercurius, SEC, and SIB. Reusify and Tulip Ventures provided additional support.
