Piezo Direct Introduces Mesh Based Piezo Atomizer With 2 Micron Hole Specification
New atomizer incorporates precision laser drilling, titanium mesh, and post-processing for recast material removal
Burlingame, California, United States, 1st Oct 2026 – Piezo Direct has introduced a new mesh based piezo atomizer featuring laser drilled holes as small as 2.0 microns and a manufacturing process that includes post-processing following laser drilling.
The atomizer is designed for applications that require controlled liquid atomization and consistent fine mist production. Piezo Direct manufactures the mesh using precision laser drilling and applies an additional post-processing step intended to remove recast material and surrounding spatter created during the drilling process.
“Piezo Direct developed the new mesh atomizer to support tighter hole size tolerances and additional post-processing following laser drilling,” said Li Hsu, CEO of Piezo Direct. “Our engineering team focused on controlling the mesh geometry and refining the manufacturing process so the product can be customized for a range of liquid atomization applications.”
Post-Processing Following Laser Drilling
Laser drilling creates micro openings in the mesh by locally heating and removing material. During this process, small amounts of recast material and spatter can form around the perimeter of the drilled opening.
Piezo Direct developed a post-processing method designed to remove this residual material while maintaining the geometry of the drilled holes and the underlying mesh material.
The company evaluates processed mesh samples using scanning electron microscopy as part of its manufacturing and inspection process. This allows engineers to examine the condition of the drilled openings and surrounding mesh surface at high magnification.
The additional processing step is incorporated into Piezo Direct’s manufacturing workflow for applications where hole geometry and mesh surface condition are important design considerations.
Hole Sizes Starting at 2.0 Microns
Piezo Direct’s manufacturing process supports through-hole diameters as small as 2.0 microns.
The current production range includes hole diameters from 2.0 to 2.5 microns with a stated diameter tolerance of 0.3 microns. Hole dimensions can influence droplet formation, atomization rate, and overall mist characteristics, making control of the mesh geometry an important part of atomizer design.
Piezo Direct works with customers to develop mesh specifications based on factors including liquid properties, desired atomization characteristics, operating frequency, mesh dimensions, and system design.
Titanium Mesh Manufacturing
The new atomizer is manufactured using titanium mesh, with stainless steel configurations also available.
Titanium provides a combination of low weight, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties suitable for repeated high frequency operation. Manufacturing very small holes in titanium requires careful control of laser parameters, heat input, hole geometry, and subsequent processing.
Piezo Direct has developed its manufacturing process around controlling these variables from initial laser drilling through final inspection.
