Commonplace Expands Nationwide Marketplace for Large, High-Value Secondhand Home and Wellness Goods

Skek Gear Apparel Brand

The platform combines a nationwide logistics network, structured payment protections, and HSA and FSA payment integration to address longstanding friction in the oversized resale market.

The market for large, high-value secondhand goods, such as fitness equipment, golf carts, hot tubs, home wellness products, premium appliances, and furniture, has historically been difficult to navigate. Transactions in this category involve significant coordination: items are heavy, expensive, and difficult to transport, and buyers typically have limited recourse if something goes wrong after purchase. Today, Commonplace announced the nationwide expansion of its managed marketplace built specifically to address those challenges.

The platform covers premium categories including fitness equipment, home wellness systems, high-end kitchen appliances, furniture, e-bikes, jet skis, and golf carts, with listings averaging more than 55% below retail prices.

Managed Logistics and Structured Payment Protections

Commonplace routes transactions through a managed fulfillment flow designed to reduce risk for both buyers and sellers. The platform operates a nationwide logistics network of more than 3,000 trained team members. Every pickup includes a physical inspection at the seller’s location, generating photo and video condition reports shared with the buyer prior to transport.

Transactions are structured around a $1 reservation hold, with full payment processed following delivery and installation. If an item does not pass inspection, buyers may cancel without penalty. The network supports free delivery within 100 miles for eligible transactions and extended logistics coverage up to 1,000 miles nationwide.

“Buying something secondhand should be as easy as ordering it new. We are removing the coordination burden from both sides of the transaction: sellers get a hassle-free pickup and payment, and buyers get a vetted item delivered and installed,” said Ari Kimmelfeld, Founder of Commonplace.

HSA and FSA Payment Integration for Eligible Secondhand Wellness Equipment

In a significant addition to its checkout infrastructure, Commonplace has integrated Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account payment functionality, making it one of the first logistics-enabled resale platforms to offer this capability on secondhand fitness and wellness equipment.

Eligible categories may include home gym systems, cardio equipment, cold plunges, infrared saunas, massage chairs, and recovery tools. Purchases using HSA or FSA funds require a Letter of Medical Necessity from a licensed healthcare provider confirming medical appropriateness for the buyer’s specific condition. Commonplace has integrated the LMN process directly into its checkout flow: buyers complete a brief health survey, which is reviewed by a licensed provider who issues the letter when appropriate.

With approximately $174 billion currently held in U.S. health savings accounts, the integration opens a meaningful channel for consumers to apply tax-advantaged funds toward eligible secondhand wellness purchases by combining pre-tax savings with secondhand pricing that already sits significantly below retail.

Seller Experience

Sellers list items using AI-assisted photo recognition that identifies the product and populates the listing automatically. Commonplace coordinates pickup logistics, manages payment processing, and pays sellers at the point of pickup. Sellers are not required to manage buyer communication, negotiate pricing, or coordinate transportation.

Post-Delivery Support

Commonplace provides installation support on eligible purchases and a two-month limited warranty on qualifying items, extending structured protections into the post-delivery period.
